Freddy: ¡Hola! Yo soy Freddy.
Beth: And my name is Beth.
Beth: And we thought that it´d be really useful if we did a role play of the different conversations for you to familiarize yourself with how the listening component of the exam is going to work.
Listen to the conversation, at what time is Freddy meeting Beth at the cafe.
Beth: Hi Freddy!
Freddy: Hi Beth! Are we finally meeting tomorrow at the café you mentioned to me?
Beth: Yes of course I´d love to! The only problem is with the timings because you suggested that we meet at half past four. Sadly I can´t meet until five o´clock because I finish university at five.
Freddy: Don´t worry, I leave home at that time then. It takes me like thirty minutes to get there so you have some time to get to the café.
Beth: Okay perfect. So I will see you at that time then.
Freddy: Great, see you then, bye.
Beth: So, what time am I meeting Freddy at the café?
Freddy: A) 4:15,
Beth: B) 4:30,
Freddy: C) 5:00,
Beth: Or D) 5:30.
So, what time is Beth meeting Freddy at the café?
Beth: The correct answer is C) 5:30.
Beth: Okay great let´s do another one!
Freddy: You are going to hear Beth talking about the gym she has just joined. So, what is the best thing about her job?
Beth: Okay, so Freddy, I have just joined such a great gym. There are so many benefits to this gym. So we have free energy drinks which I couldn´t believe, it is open 24/7 which is so useful for people who work. We have the fact that it is super clean, which is so important when you´re working out. Something really good is that you get a personal trainer free for the first month, which for people like me who have no idea what they´re doing with stuff like that it´s perfect.
And something else which is really great is that ten days a month you can bring a friend with you and the friend doesn´t have to pay, so you can come with me and we can go together! But the most amazing thing for me was the fee, I couldn´t believe how amazing it was! It was so good.
Freddy: So, great, now the question is ´what is the best thing about her gym?´
Beth: So, is it: A) The Schedule, B) The price, C) The cleanliness or D) A personal trainer for the first month.
Freddy: So, which do you think it is? Remember you can listen to this again one more time. The right option would be: B) The price.
Beth: Definitely, and something to avoid if you can is watching films that are dubbed in Spanish. Films and also series because it doesn´t help your English learning like it should.
Beth: And also, really try to keep up with the news and watch BBC news in English.
Beth: Or, you can come down to Aula Inglés Academy and we can help you practice for the Aptis exam.
Freddy: Esperamos haberles ayudado.
Both: Bye!

Beth: Hello my name is Beth.
Laura: My name is Laura.
Bea: And I am Bea.
Beth: We are from Aula Inglés, an English academy that specializes in the preparation of the English APTIS exam. So today we wanted to help you with the listening component of this exam and so we have prepared 2 roleplays and these roleplays are of conversations that we will have between us. After each roleplay we will ask you the question, and the question will be multiple choice answered. The question will also appear on the screen in front of you to help and also if you need to, you can listen to the question one more time. So let´s get started!
*Dialogue*
Bea: You will hear a conversation between two girls talking about wedding planning.
Laura: Hi Beth.
Beth: Hi Laura, how is the wedding planning going?
Laura: Horrible, we only have 3 days. Can you please help me to decide which wedding dress I should choose?
Beth: Of course, no problem. Can you describe the options, please.
Laura: Yes, of course. The first one is a pink one but with sleeves. The second one is white but very simple. And the final one is blue but very short.
Beth: Very short? Ok, so you have a pink dress with sleeves, you have a white dress that is simple and you have a blue dress that´s short. So, I think that the weather is going to be really bad, it´s going to rain and be cold on your wedding day. So, I think what would be better would be your pink dress and the sleeves so you can stay warm.
Laura: Oh that´s a good idea. I don´t want to get cold. Thank you.
Beth: Your welcome, no problem.
*End of dialogue*
Beth: So the question is “Which wedding dress will Laura choose?”
Laura: We have 3 options: A, B and C. A pink with sleeves, B white and simple and C blue and short.
Beth: The correct answer is A pink with sleeves. This is because we have discussed that the weather is going to be very bad on that day, therefore she needs to be warm, and as she said she doesn´t want to get cold in the rain and the cold weather.
Laura: We are in a restaurant; the client and the waitress are talking about what she is going to order.
Beth: Hi! Welcome to Ego´s restaurant. What can I get for you?
Bea: Can you show us the menu?
Beth: Of course, no problem. So today we have, for starter soup, vegetables or pasta. And then for main course you can choose fish or you can choose meat. And for dessert we have fresh fruit.
Bea: Okay, let me think. First, I am allergic to pasta so I´m not going to order it. Then, I love soup but it´s too hot to eat soup today. So I will choose vegetables and then for the main course I will choose fish because I think that it goes well with vegetables.
Beth: Perfect! Okay! So, the question is: what id Bea going to order? So is it going to be:
A: Pasta and meat,
B: Pasta and fish,
C: Vegetables and fish,
D: Vegetables and meat.
Bea: The correct answer is C Vegetables and fish. It is because she said that she is allergic to pasta and she thinks it´s too hot to eat soup so she prefers vegetables and also fish because she thinks that it goes well with vegetables.
Beth: Exactly. So as you can probably tell the listening component is a really difficult part of the APTIS exam. So I would recommend that you practice as much as you possibly can before you do it.
Bea: At the moment we are studying English and our personal opinion is that you should listen to music in English.
Laura: Also watch films and series in English too with subtitles.
Beth: Exactly, so definitely follow the recommendations of the girls. Or you can come down to Aula Inglés academy and we can help you prepare for the Aptis exam. Thank you very much!
All: Bye!
